The inspiration for this post came from something that Chris Brogan recently wrote in his weekly newsletter. His suggestion was to make a daily habit of writing down a list of ten things, any ten things. My modification is to make a list of ten things that make me happy.
Here are ten things that make me happy. I wrote this in my notebook while sitting in the car line at my daughter’s school.
- Walking my puppy.
- Taking my kids for ice cream.
- Long bike rides.
- Tying Flies
- Making a fly rod
- Working on fun projects.
- Going fishing in small streams.
- Skiing on a sunny day.
- Watching baseball in the summer.
- Listening to baseball games during a long drive.
- Riding bikes with my kids.
- Smoking chicken
- Poking at a campfire.
I don’t think I’ll make a list like this every day. But I think it could be a good exercise to do when things don’t feel like they’re going well. It could be a great way to get out of a funk.
What do you think? What’s something that makes you happy? Leave a comment and let me know.

p.s. yes, my list has more than ten things. It makes a better blog post title if I call it “ten things” though.
