Last weekend I came across this NPR article promoting a 22 minute workout. The idea of a 22 minutes being sufficient for daily exercise came from Dr. Tim Church. The workout itself was created by Bryant Johnson. I have to travel to London for the BETT Show next week. Whenever I travel I find it hard to get in a good workout so I’m going to spend next week trying the 22 minute workout.

The appeal of the 22 minute workout besides the duration is that it doesn’t require any special equipment so it can be done in a hotel room. I like that sound of that because there’s nothing that I hate more about hotel fitness centers than having to wait for equipment to become available. Typically, the hotels that I stay at (mostly Hiltons) will have two or three treadmills, an elliptical machine, one weight bench, and small area for stretching. In other words, there’s almost always a wait during peak times. Plus, when staying at an official conference hotel during winter month I don’t enjoy showcasing my Casper-pale legs to the same people who will see me on stage later (vanity, I know).
Reporting on Improving Fitness
“Improving fitness” in this case is a relative term because I won’t be recording any metrics at the start of the week. I suppose that I could weigh myself at the beginning and end, but that’s not the only measure of fitness improvement. Weight change also has many other factors that aren’t related to doing this 22 minute workout. So I’ll do the workout everyday (I’ll also be doing my spin rides until Wednesday) and report back next weekend on how I feel about my fitness after incorporating the 22 minute workout.
