According to Punxsutawney Phil spring will be here sooner than later. Now is the time to start thinking about those days when we can cruise on our bikes or run without having to layer-up before heading out. Google’s My Maps provides excellent tools for designing safe biking and running routes.
I made this video a couple of years ago, but it still has accurate directions for designing and sharing safe biking routes in Google’s My Maps service. The directions in the video can also be used to plan safe running and biking routes.
Measure Any Distance in Google Maps
When you use Google Maps in your web browser you can right-click on the map to begin measuring from one place to another. You can measure distances between more than two places if you simply continue to click around the map after your initial right-click. Watch this video to see how it works.

The browser-based and desktop versions of Google Earth have built-in measuring tools that you can use to plan biking, running, and hiking routes. In the following video I demonstrate how to measure distances in both versions of Google Earth.
